Mashatu: Land of Leopards, new wildlife documentary had its African premiere at the Wildscreen Festival (12 and13 June 2025) in Maun, Botswana
Filmed entirely at the Mashatu Game Reserve over three years, the story is set in the heart of one of Africa’s last strongholds for free roaming leopards.
It follows the dramatic fate of a leopard family navigating the challenges of a changing climate, revealing never-before-seen leopard behaviours in the diverse, landscape of Mashatu Game Reserve.
Directed by Julien Naar and produced by ZED Films for France Télévisions, National Geographic and RTS, this documentary is a celebration of wildlife storytelling, combining pioneering camera technology and breath taking cinematography by Wim Vorster and Magdel Vorster (Mags) of Wild Web Africa.
Mashatu Game Reserve is located in the remote eastern corner of Botswana, where
the Limpopo and Shashe Rivers meet. It is a landscape of wide plains, lush forests,
rugged hills, and ancient ridges, creating an unparalleled ecological diversity. Named the Land of the Giants after the local Mashatu trees, the Reserve is home to the largest
herds of elephants on private land in Africa and offers big cat sightings.
