From June 14–16, 2026, the eyes of the world will turn to the shores of Lake Geneva as Hôtel Royal in Évian-les-Bains hosts the G7 Summit under the French presidency of Emmanuel Macron.

This will be the second time the legendary property — perched between lake and mountains in Haute-Savoie — welcomes the leaders of the world’s most powerful democracies. An icon of French hospitality and a discreet witness to global diplomacy, Hôtel Royal has long played a quiet but pivotal role in shaping international affairs.

Évian’s diplomatic legacy stretches back nearly a century. In 1938, the town hosted a humanitarian summit convened by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt to address the plight of Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution. In 1962, the Evian Accords were signed nearby, ending the Algerian War and granting independence to Algeria.

Then, in 2003, the Hôtel Royal welcomed the G8 under the leadership of President Jacques Chirac — a moment that cemented the hotel’s role as a venue for high-level negotiations. The hotel has since become the annual stage for Franco-German summits, bringing together key political and economic figures from both nations. Most recently, President Emmanuel Macron met former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz there in September 2024, reaffirming the hotel’s importance as a symbol of cooperation and quiet diplomacy.

Reaffirming its prestige, Atout France recently renewed Hôtel Royal’s “Palace” distinction, the highest accolade in the French hospitality sector. The property — part of The Leading Hotels of the World — is set within a 19-hectare private park, offering panoramic views of Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps.

Originally opened in 1909, the hotel has hosted royalty, heads of state, and artists from around the world. A meticulous renovation in recent years has preserved its Belle Époque grandeur while introducing contemporary touches that cater to the needs of modern dignitaries and discerning travellers alike.

One of its newest highlights, the evian SPA, the first of its kind in Europe, has already garnered acclaim, being named Best Spa in France by Hotel & Restaurant Meetings. The hotel is also in contention for Best Hotel in the World at the upcoming 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards — a reflection of its rising profile on the global luxury travel stage.

As it prepares to host the G7 Summit once more, Hôtel Royal will draw on its century-old heritage of hospitality, diplomacy and discretion. Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States will convene at the lakeside estate to discuss the world’s most pressing issues — from global security to climate change.

In welcoming the G7, Hôtel Royal once again places itself at the heart of international dialogue, where elegance meets influence and where French art de vivre supports the quiet work of diplomacy.
