Qatar’s Eco-Floating Hotel is set to redefine sustainable luxury with its rotating design, zero-waste principles, and cutting-edge renewable energy solutions.
Qatar’s hospitality sector is preparing to welcome a ground breaking addition—the Eco-Floating Hotel, a five-star marvel designed to merge sustainability with luxury. Developed by Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS), this ambitious project aims to revolutionise eco-conscious travel while offering guests an unparalleled experience.
Spanning 35,000 square metres, the Eco-Floating Hotel is designed to operate with minimum energy loss and zero waste. Its most striking feature is its rotational movement, which harnesses water currents to generate electricity while providing guests with ever-changing panoramic views. The hotel’s 152 rooms, each equipped with private balconies, ensure that visitors can enjoy uninterrupted vistas of the surrounding waters.
The hotel’s vortex-inspired design is not merely aesthetic—it plays a crucial role in its environmental efficiency. The structure collects rainwater, which is treated and repurposed as grey water to maintain its lush green spaces. Additionally, waste separation units will recycle food waste into fertiliser, further minimising ecological impact.
A key component of the hotel’s renewable energy strategy is vawtau (vertical axis wind turbine and umbrella) technology. These 55 modules, each capable of generating 25 kW of electricity, utilise wind currents caused by temperature differences between land and sea. This innovative approach ensures that the hotel remains entirely independent of fossil fuels.
Guests can arrive via a floating pier, boats, or even helicopters and drones, making access as seamless as possible. Inside, the hotel boasts a 700-square-metre lobby, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, sauna, gym, and mini golf course, ensuring a luxurious stay.
While the Eco-Floating Hotel is initially planned for Qatar, its mobile design means it could be deployed in various locations worldwide, provided the water currents are suitable. Although no official completion date has been confirmed, the project is expected to be operational by 2025.
With its cutting-edge sustainability measures, innovative energy solutions, and luxurious amenities, Qatar’s Eco-Floating Hotel is poised to set a new benchmark for environmentally responsible hospitality.
