Skyports Infrastructure has completed its vertiport at Bicester Motion, Oxfordshire, marking a major step in developing advanced air mobility (AAM) and eVTOL infrastructure in the UK.
Skyports Infrastructure, the leading developer of vertiport infrastructure for advanced air mobility (AAM), has officially completed its vertiport at Bicester Motion, Oxfordshire. The facility, unveiled on 4 June 2025, is one of the UK’s first dedicated hubs for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) flights, forming a crucial component of the Advanced Mobility Ecosystem Consortium, a UKRI Future Flight Challenge initiative.
The newly operational Bicester Motion vertiport will serve as a testing ground for eVTOL aircraft and vertiport operations, offering a controlled environment to refine infrastructure, safety systems, and passenger processes. As part of the Consortium’s broader efforts, the vertiport will enable key stakeholders to collaborate on the development of advanced air mobility solutions, fostering a low-noise, sustainable aviation future in the UK.
Designed to evolve alongside emerging eVTOL technologies, Bicester Motion’s vertiport will act as a network node for industry-wide research including :
- Passenger processing systems, offering weight balance optimisation, identity validation, and screening.
- A dedicated passenger lounge, enhancing customer comfort.
- An operations room featuring Skyports’ Vertiport Automation System (VAS), optimising scheduling and aircraft throughput.
- A situational awareness module with integrated airspace monitoring and weather tracking.
Speaking at the launch, Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports, remarked, Completing Bicester adds another vertiport to our rapidly expanding portfolio. We are excited to see commercial AAM operations go live in the near future in the UK.
Bicester Motion’s vertiport is a pivotal milestone in the UK’s journey toward commercial eVTOL operations. With collaboration across key industry players, it is set to become a living lab for research, testing, and stakeholder engagement—helping to propel advanced air mobility into mainstream transport infrastructure.
