The Stock Exchange Hotel is set for a significant expansion after securing planning permission to add a substantial number of new rooms, marking one of the most notable developments in the city’s luxury hospitality sector.

The approval allows the hotel to convert the neighbouring Norfolk House into an additional 95 bedrooms, creating a new wing known as Stock Exchange Suites. The move will dramatically increase capacity for the five‑star property, which currently operates 40 rooms within its Grade II‑listed former trading hall.

Alongside the new accommodation, the plans include a lounge, gym, spa, meeting rooms, and a restaurant/bar, positioning the expansion as a fully integrated extension rather than a simple increase in inventory. The development sits directly opposite the existing hotel, enabling seamless operational integration.

For business travellers, the enlarged footprint is expected to ease pressure on premium room availability in Manchester’s fast‑growing corporate and events market. The additional meeting and wellness facilities also signal a clear push to attract executive stays and small‑scale corporate gatherings.

Construction timelines have not yet been confirmed, but the approval marks a major step forward for one of Manchester’s most recognisable boutique luxury hotels as it prepares for its next phase of growth.
