Skyports Infrastructure has officially completed one of the UK’s first operational vertiports at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire, marking a major step forward in preparing the country for the arrival of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
Unveiled during a preview event last week, the vertiport is now ready to support test flights and future commercial operations of air taxis, cargo drones and other eVTOL vehicles. It features a compact terminal building for passenger and operational processing and a tarmac landing pad — all occupying just 0.42 acres of land.
The vertiport at Bicester is part of Skyports’ global rollout of AAM (Advanced Air Mobility) infrastructure, with similar developments underway in Dubai, Paris and Singapore.
“Completing Bicester adds another vertiport to our rapidly expanding portfolio,” said Duncan Walker, CEO of Skyports Infrastructure. “We are excited to see commercial AAM operations go live in the near future in the UK.”
Visitors to the event were treated to demonstrations of Skyports’ proprietary Remote Management & Scheduling System (RMSS), including passenger check-in, aircraft scheduling, weather data integration, and real-time tracking — all designed to ensure seamless and efficient AAM operations.
The first eVTOL test flights are imminent. Vertical Aerospace, a key UK player in the electric aviation space, will begin demonstration flights of its VX4 aircraft from the site.
“Having access to an operationally ready vertiport enables us to validate not just the performance of eVTOL aircraft, but the real-world infrastructure and processes that will support future electric air travel,” said Michael Cervenka, Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer at Vertical Aerospace.
Vertiports are expected to be built into airports, rail hubs, city centres and rural areas across the UK to service the growing electric flight industry. As AAM matures, Skyports envisions its Bicester site as a key proving ground for scalable, sustainable air transport solutions.
With the UK government aiming to become a global leader in low-emission transport, and Vertical Aerospace already flight-testing nearby, the Bicester vertiport puts the UK at the forefront of the electric aviation revolution.
