Ralph’s connection to The Windsor Court runs deep. As a child, he visited the hotel with his grandfather, forming an early bond with its elegance and spirit.
After Hurricane Katrina, Ralph joined the team professionally, drawn by the hotel’s resilience and its role in the city’s recovery. Today, as General Manager, he leads with purpose, blending tradition with thoughtful innovation and placing genuine care at the heart of every decision.
What inspired you to pursue a career in hotel management?
My love for The Windsor Court began in childhood. After Katrina, I saw how the hotel stood as a symbol of strength and beauty. The loyalty of our staff and the emotional connection guests had to the property inspired me to help write its next chapter—not just restoring a building, but the pride and wonder it represents.
How do you balance emerging trends and evolving guests’ preferences?
Our guests are loyal and discerning, so we introduce new ideas with intention. We don’t chase trends, but when something adds lasting value—like wellness woven into every part of the stay—we pay attention. Enhancements must feel personal, meaningful, and aligned with our traditional style.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
Early on, I focused too much on resumes. In New Orleans, cultural fit is everything. Today, I’d ask a candidate how they feel about the city—its food, its schools, its spirit. Credentials matter, but connection matters more.
What defines your management style?
I manage down, not up. Genuine care for our associates drives everything. When the team feels valued, they reflect the soul of New Orleans in every guest interaction. Hospitality begins with care—and that’s when service becomes transformative.
What are your strategic goals and vision for the hotel?
Our long-term goal is to become Louisiana’s only Forbes Five-Star property. But first, we focus on four pillars: creating a fulfilling workplace, maintaining a culture of excellence, ensuring financial health, and supporting our community. As an independent hotel, we define success on our own terms—with intimacy, integrity, and impact.
What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Fail—and don’t fear it. Growth lives in discomfort. Challenge the status quo, take risks, and embrace the lessons that come with falling short. That’s where innovation begins.
