Carlton W. Grant’s hospitality journey began at age 14 as a busboy on Cape Cod. That early exposure sparked a lifelong passion for resort management, leading him to earn a Hotel Management degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and become a General Manager by 23.
His career has focused on large-scale resort communities across the South-eastern U.S., blending operational complexity with guest-focused excellence.
Now Managing Director at Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa, Carlton brings decades of hands-on leadership and a clear vision for growth, service, and team development.
What inspired you to pursue a career in hotel management?
Starting as a busboy at 14, I quickly discovered a love for serving others and the energy of resort life. That early experience shaped my passion for hospitality and the guest journey.
How do you balance emerging trends and evolving guests’ preferences?
We listen – closely. Our guests, members, and service professionals guide us. Success comes from delivering what they want, not what we think they should have.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently?
I’ve worked in incredible destinations, but I do wish I’d spent time at a Caribbean resort early on. That would’ve added another layer to my experience.
What defines your management style?
Hands-on and team-focused. I believe in building strong hospitality professionals, delivering excellence, and creating financial success that opens doors for everyone.
What are your strategic goals and vision for the resort?
Hammock Beach has extraordinary growth potential. The new 198-room oceanfront lodge and development of our Intracoastal parcel will elevate us to world-class status. That growth will also fuel opportunities across our hotel group.
What advice would you give to someone starting out?
Explore every corner of the industry. Find what you love, aim high, and commit fully. With hard work and focus, hospitality can offer an incredibly rewarding career.
