As Vietnam becomes a fast-growing hub for regional business travel, HIIVE by Fusion is leading the way with modern, wellness-oriented hotels tailored for working professionals.
At the forefront of this evolution is Mr Bui Duc Khiem, Cluster General Manager of both HIIVE Binh Duong and HIIVE Binh Duong New City.
With over 13 years in hospitality, Khiem brings a unique blend of operational expertise, pre-opening strategy, and a deep understanding of guest expectations in the corporate sector. Backed by academic training in both Information Technology and Materials Science, Khiem’s approach is as data-informed as it is people-driven. His leadership style reflects Fusion Hotel Group’s focus on innovation, local talent development, and sustainability.
We spoke to Khiem about building Vietnam’s next-generation business hotels, the role of AI and smart systems in hospitality, and why leadership means never losing sight of the guest.
What inspired you to pursue a career in hotel management?
What drew me to hotel management was the unique intersection of business, people, and place. Few industries offer the same combination of structure and spontaneity, strategy and creativity.
I was fascinated by how disciplines like finance, operations, design, and marketing come together to create experiences that matter. Hospitality allows you to create environments where people feel welcomed, supported, and inspired—whether they’re staying for one night or returning every quarter.
That balance between systems and human connection continues to inspire me.
How do you balance emerging trends and evolving guests’ preferences?
Balancing innovation with guest expectations is a dynamic, ongoing challenge—and one I embrace fully.
We use AI and guest analytics to personalise every stay, from pre-arrival preferences to in-room settings. Smart rooms, mobile check-ins, and digital concierge services are integrated into the guest journey, while maintaining warmth through attentive staff interaction.
We’ve also embraced sustainability as a core operating principle. From energy-efficient infrastructure to zero-waste dining initiatives, our approach reflects the growing awareness among business travellers.
As “bleisure” becomes more common, we’ve invested in flexible spaces—co-working lounges, wellness zones, and social hubs. Guest feedback informs every step, allowing us to iterate, refine, and stay ahead without chasing every trend.
What defines your management style?
I lead with a people-first, data-driven mindset. I focus on financial discipline, operational excellence, and guest experience—all supported by clear communication and consistent goals.
Empowering the team is key. I believe in mentoring future leaders, fostering collaboration, and ensuring everyone understands the bigger picture. When teams feel supported and aligned, performance follows naturally.
What are your strategic goals and vision for the hotel, and how does that integrate with Fusion Hotel Group’s aims?
My vision for HIIVE by Fusion is built around four core pillars:
- Positioning HIIVE as Vietnam’s leading business travel brand through consistent, high-value service
- Leveraging technology to enhance the guest journey and streamline operations
- Embedding sustainability in everything we do—from sourcing and design to daily processes
- Developing local talent, aligned with Fusion’s commitment to building the next generation of hospitality leaders in Vietnam
These strategies align perfectly with Fusion Hotel Group’s wider mission to grow responsibly, empower teams, and deliver guest experiences rooted in wellbeing and purpose.
What advice would you give to someone starting out in hospitality?
Start on the front line—reception, housekeeping, food and beverage. These roles build your credibility and teach you what really matters in hospitality: attention to detail, teamwork, and guest understanding.
Learn the numbers. Metrics like RevPAR and GOP aren’t just financial tools—they shape decision-making at every level.
Stay curious. Embrace technology. Understand how guest expectations are evolving and never stop learning.
Finally, build your network. Mentors, peers, and colleagues will help shape your journey. Be flexible, be proactive, and always lead with the guest in mind. The best hospitality careers are built on passion and adaptability.
