The Norfolk Broads, often referred to as Britain’s answer to Venice, was ranked the top UK countryside location for autumn getaways, with an average of only 9.3 days of rain over the three months and average temperature highs of 14.2°C.

The ‘Broads’ are a network of rivers and lakes and are one of the UK’s most unique National Parks, offering a mix of tranquil countryside and charming waterside villages, such as Horning and Wroxham. For those who enjoy the blissful sounds of nature, cosy village pubs and breath taking seasonal scenery, an autumn escape to the Norfolk Broads might be just the retreat you need pre-Christmas.

Coming in second is the New Forest, located in Hampshire. Known for its ancient woodlands, open heathlands, and free-roaming ponies, it is one of the UK’s most enchanting countryside locations. From September to November, visitors and locals alike can expect 10 days of rainfall and temperature highs of 14.7°C. Minimal rain and cosy temperatures mean you’re likely to remain dry and comfortable for most of your visit, making it the perfect place to indulge in outdoor activities such as cycling, horse riding, or leisurely walks across the heather-clad heaths.

In third place is The Cotswolds, often considered the epitome of British countryside, spanning several counties in south-central England. Popular getaway locations within the Cotswolds include Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bibury and Chipping Campden. These locations average 10.8 days of rainfall with temperature highs of 14.3°C.

This popular countryside location is known for its rolling hills, honey-coloured stone cottages, and idyllic market towns. The autumn months are the perfect time to visit for lovers of local food, as harvest season brings local food festivals and farmers’ markets. Similarly, those who love to explore the great outdoors are spoilt for choice when it comes to walking trails and outdoor activities.

The Brecon Beacons and Scottish Highlands make up the remainder of the top 5 autumn locations, with less than 13 days of rain and comfortable temperatures, making them great choices for a cosy countryside escape.
