Cameron House, on Loch Lomond in Scotland, has a fascinating history which dates back to the 15th century.

It was in 1823 however, under the ownership of the Smolletts, a local family of shipbuilders and artists (whose most famous son, Tobias Smollett, was among Scotland’s great 18th-century novelists), when plans were finalised for extensive renovations to take place, that would transform the home into a grand baronial mansion, known today as Cameron House hotel.

For over two centuries, the resort has been remodelled and hosted esteemed guests from literary, political and even royal circles including Samuel Johnson, the Empress Eugenie of France, Princess Margaret, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and Winston Churchill to name but a few.

Today Cameron House is a five-star resort set within 400-acres of beautiful Scottish countryside, with  the surroundings home to otters, red squirrels and even wallabies. Guests can choose from a selection of 208 bedrooms including 28 suites in addition to 115 lodges and self-catering apartments that sleep up to 8 people.

The hotel and lodges are complemented by an award-winning spa with rooftop infinity pool which has recently undergone a £300,000 redesign, an 18-hole championship golf course and a range of impressive restaurants and bars, including a new fine dining restaurant, LOMA, which focuses on sustainability and centres on products taken from the kitchen garden in the hotel grounds. Resort activities include jet skiing, loch cruises, falconry, pony treks, clay pigeon shooting, 4×4 off-road driving adventures, bike hire and more.
