Heathrow Airport has reported its busiest September on record, welcoming nearly 7.4 million passengers and rounding off a summer of operational milestones.
Despite a Europe-wide IT disruption caused by Collins Aerospace systems, Heathrow maintained smooth operations without cancellations—underscoring its resilience and the strength of its integrated management model.
The airport retained its title as Europe’s most punctual hub and, for the third consecutive year, was named the most connected airport in the world. Security performance remained consistently high, with 95% of passengers clearing checks in under five minutes—an achievement that speaks to Heathrow’s ongoing focus on efficiency and customer experience.
Beyond passenger traffic, Heathrow continues to play a pivotal role in UK trade. As the country’s largest port by value, it facilitated over £215 billion in global commerce last year. The airport’s £1.3 billion investment plan for the coming year will target service improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and growth opportunities for airlines and business travellers alike.
Among the latest infrastructure developments is a privately financed expansion of the M25 motorway near Heathrow’s third runway site. The new stretch, built 130 metres west of the current junction, is designed to enhance safety and reduce disruption for motorists—part of a broader strategy to future-proof the airport’s connectivity.
Heathrow CEO Thomas Woldbye commented: “This summer at Heathrow was one to be celebrated. Operating Europe’s largest airport doesn’t come without its challenges, but I’m proud that our team delivered under pressure – welcoming nearly 7.4 million passengers in September alone while maintaining strong performance in punctuality and security. It’s a clear sign that Heathrow is vital to the UK’s economic growth and why we will continue to invest in our airport – opening up even more opportunities for passengers, airlines, and the country.”
For business travellers, Heathrow’s performance signals more than just numbers – it reflects a commitment to reliability, global reach, and a seamless experience at scale.
