Customers in Salt Lake City will now have even more options for an easier, expedited airport journey thanks to Delta Digital ID. Launched on Oct. 24, the industry-leading touchless airport technology is coming to SLC and eligible Delta customers.

Developed in close collaboration with TSA, Delta Digital ID uses biometric facial matching to eliminate the need for an agent-facilitated document check, allowing customers to move through the airport with ease. At security, Digital ID gives Delta customers access to the dedicated TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID lane for the fastest experience, letting them move through the checkpoint by simply looking into a camera – no need to show a government-issued ID. In the lobby, Digital ID-eligible customers can soon leave their licenses in their wallets when checking bags at the designated bag drop area.

Delta, in partnership with TSA, debuted this technology in 2021 at its Atlanta and Detroit hubs. Since then, it has expanded to three more airports in key coastal cities including Los Angeles and New York City (including both New York-JFK and La Guardia Airport). The addition of Digital ID at Delta’s SLC hub is the next step in the airline’s journey to innovate the customer travel experience, making airport navigation quick and easy.
“Over the past year, as Digital ID has been in operation at some of our busiest hubs, customers have come to rely on the time-savings and convenience it provides,” said Greg Forbes, Managing Director – Airport Experience.  “We’re thrilled for this technology to expand to a sixth hub, introducing a more streamlined, hands-free airport experience to a new group of customers.”

At bag drop, Digital ID transactions are about 75% faster than standard transactions, averaging 30 seconds compared to two minutes. The time-savings continue at security: Digital ID customers move through the checkpoint about 60% faster than standard TSA PreCheck customers, with automated ID verification reducing transaction times from 20-25 seconds to 7-10 seconds.

The launch of Delta Digital ID and TSAPreCheck® Touchless ID at SLC will be closely followed by expansion to Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) in Washington D.C., just in time for the holiday travel season. Delta and TSA will continue to partner together and monitor additional expansion options in 2025.
