Santani Wellness Resort & Spa has been awarded One Michelin Key, recognizing excellence in design, service, and overall guest experience.
Situated on a 116-acre former tea plantation near Kandy, Santani places human sustainability at the centre of its philosophy. The resort is Sri Lanka’s first and only purpose-built luxury wellness property, designed to the highest sustainability and eco-standards. Its minimalist, tropical-modernist architecture follows the brand’s signature “architecture of silence”, conceived to calm the senses and elevate the spirit. Standalone pavilions are oriented to uninterrupted valley views, with open-air structures and natural ventilation that maintain comfort while reducing energy use.
Accommodation comprises 16 Mountain View Chalets and four Garden View Chalets, each designed for privacy, quiet and connection to nature. Shared spaces are intentionally serene and Wi-Fi-free to encourage presence, with discreet connectivity available in-room or via a private 15-seat media lounge.
Wellness at Santani is bespoke and results-driven rather than prescriptive. Stays begin with assessment and goal setting, followed by tailored daily schedules that may include Ayurvedic treatments, yoga and mindfulness, detox and metabolic balance, mobility and musculoskeletal conditioning, breathwork and contrast hydrotherapy. The resort offers tailormade programmes, to suit your individual requirements whether its stress management, weight loss, menopause support, sleep optimisation, anti-ageing, or de-addiction. The tri-level spa, the largest in Sri Lanka, features the island’s first complete hydrotherapy suite with salt bath, sauna and steam, and frames panoramic views over jungle and mountainside.
Dining follows Santani’s concept of gourmet wellness cuisine, served in a glass-fronted floating restaurant with sweeping valley vistas. Menus are personalised to body type and programme and draw on Ayurveda’s Rasa Haya (six tastes), an approach to intelligent eating that prioritises taste-based nutrition and lasting habit change.
“The Michelin Key is a meaningful recognition and honours what we’ve always believed; that true luxury is peace of mind. Santani was created to restore balance in a world that rarely pauses, and this recognition is a reminder that stillness too, has its place in modern luxury. Being the only wellness resort to receive this award affirms that quiet excellence and integrity of experience matter; it is a recognition of our Santani ethos which is a new way of defining wellness through adaptation, awareness, design and sustainability.” – Vickum Nawagamuwage, Founder & CEO, Santani Wellness Sri Lanka.
