Antalya clinics treating international patients now compete on packages as much as on price.
Smile Dental Turkey, which has treated international patients since 2009 and sees around 100 arrivals a month, says the most common question it receives is not about the dentistry. It is what the package actually includes.
That is a fair question, because the phrase gets used loosely. Some clinics mean an airport pickup. Some mean a hotel room the patient pays for separately. In a few cases it means nothing at all and the word is decoration.
What one clinic’s package covers
At Smile Dental Turkey, any treatment plan of £3,250 or more unlocks the following at no extra charge:
| Included | Detail |
|---|---|
| Accommodation | 6 nights, hotel arranged by the clinic |
| Airport transfers | Private car, Antalya airport to hotel and return |
| Clinic transfers | Private car for every appointment |
| Consultation and CT imaging | Before any treatment begins |
| Treatment coordination | A named coordinator for the duration of the stay |
Flights are not included. The clinic assists with routing and timing, but the patient books and pays. Any operator advertising flights as part of a free package has priced them into the treatment.
Why clinics can afford to do this
It is not generosity. A patient who stays six nights completes treatment in one trip rather than two, which costs the clinic less than the alternative. Hotel rooms in Antalya outside peak season cost a fraction of the equivalent in a UK city. For most clinics the package costs less than the marketing spend it replaces.
That is worth understanding, because it means the package is not free money — it is included because it makes the operation more efficient. The clinic should be judged on the dentistry.
The threshold is the part to examine
Almost every clinic offering packages sets a minimum treatment value. The figure above is £3,250. Below that, the patient pays for hotel and transfers separately.
This creates an obvious incentive problem, and it is one the industry rarely names. A patient quoted £2,900 may find themselves steered toward £3,300 of treatment in order to “qualify”.
“The correct treatment plan is the correct treatment plan regardless of what it unlocks,” says Mehmet, a co-founder of Smile Dental Turkey. “We would rather someone paid for their own hotel than had two extra crowns they did not need.”
Patients who sense that pressure should push back, and should be prepared to walk.
Questions worth asking any clinic
- What is the minimum treatment value, and what happens if the plan comes in below it?
- Which hotel, and can it be seen before agreeing?
- Are transfers private, or shared with other patients?
- If treatment runs long, who pays for the extra nights?
- Is the coordinator a clinical member of staff or a salesperson?
The last question matters more than it sounds. A coordinator who cannot answer a clinical question without checking with the dentist is in a sales role. There is nothing wrong with that, but patients should know which they are speaking to.
What accreditation adds — and what it does not
Smile Dental Turkey holds accreditation from the American Accreditation Commission International against its International Accreditation Standards for Dental Organizations, and ISO 9001:2015 certification covering oral, dental and jaw health services. AACI is in turn accredited by ISQua’s External Evaluation Association, the international body that assesses healthcare accreditors.
That second layer is the useful distinction. Plenty of clinics display marks they purchased or issued themselves. An accreditor that is externally assessed is a different proposition, and the question patients should ask is simply: who accredits your accreditor?
What accreditation does not indicate is whether an individual clinician is any good. It covers systems — sterilisation, consent, emergency protocols, record keeping. Who performs the treatment, and what they are qualified in, is a separate question and should be asked separately.
Comparing offers
Get the inclusions in writing, get the threshold in writing, and treat the package as a tiebreaker between clinics already trusted on clinical grounds — not as a reason to choose one.
Smile Dental Turkey publishes its all-inclusive Turkey teeth packages with the full itemised list and the qualifying threshold stated openly. Discovering what “all-inclusive” meant after landing is how patients end up unhappy with treatment that went perfectly well.
