Palé Hall

Nestled on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, Palé Hall is a luxurious Victorian country house hotel that offers a serene retreat steeped in history, elegance, and charm.

Built in 1871 by Henry Robertson, a Scottish engineer and industrialist, who spared no expense in creating this grand mansion. Over the years, it has hosted notable figures, including Queen Victoria, who stayed here in 1889. The hotel retains much of its Victorian heritage, with original features and a sense of timeless grandeur.

Situated in the tranquil Dee Valley near Bala, North Wales, Palé Hall is surrounded by 16 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and parkland. Its proximity to Snowdonia National Park makes it an ideal base for exploring the region’s natural beauty, from rugged mountains to serene lakes.

The hotel was recently acquired by Anthony Cooper-Barney and his wife Donna, who have ambitious plans to enhance its offerings while preserving its historic charm. Their vision includes elevating the dining experience and introducing new spa facilities, ensuring Palé Hall remains a top-tier destination.

As you step inside Palé Hall,  you’re greeted by opulent interiors that blend Victorian elegance with modern luxury. The individually designed rooms feature antique furniture, rich fabrics, and intricate details that transport you to a bygone era. The public spaces, including the library and drawing room, exude warmth and sophistication, making them perfect for unwinding after a day of exploration.

I stayed in one of the Turret Rooms, which offered stunning views of the gardens and nearby mountains. The room was a haven of comfort, featuring a plush king-size bed, a Villeroy & Boch bathroom with granite countertops, and luxury Cole & Co toiletries.

With a Michelin Green Star restaurant, where the chefs craft exquisite dishes using locally sourced ingredients. Other amenities include free Wi-Fi, a bar, and activities like fishing and horse riding. The hotel is also pet-friendly, with expansive grounds perfect for walks.

Staying was an experience. Its rich history, stunning location, and impeccable service make it a perfect choice for those seeking a luxurious escape to unwind and explore Snowdonia and the surrounding area.
