One of the most memorable experiences I had recently was taking a day trip to Kent on the Belmont Orient Express. It was like stepping back in time to the golden age of travel, with luxurious carriages, elegant decor and impeccable service.
The journey started at London Victoria station, where we had tea and coffee served in lovely, branded China mugs in the waiting room whilst waiting for the train to arrive. We were greeted by the friendly staff, had pictures taken boarding and was showed to our seats with a glass of champagne and some delicious canapés. The seats were amazing and turned so we could look out the window at the views of the countryside as the train sped along, passing through scenic villages and green fields, for once we were lucky with the weather.
The highlight of the trip was the three-course lunch. The food was exquisite, with dishes such as roast lamb, salmon en croute and chocolate mousse. The wine was perfectly paired with each course, and the service was attentive and professional. If you ever wondered what it was like to be treated like royalty, this was the trip and savoured every bite, sip and compliment given.
After lunch, we had some time to explore the train and admire its historic features. Do go to the toilet and look at the tiled floors which are different in each carriage. The train arrived in Kent where we alighted to the sound of a Brass Band to stretch our legs before our return back to Victoria.
Once on board another glass of sparkling wine and some cheese and biscuits was served and then it was time to sit back relax and reflect on our day.
The train arrived back in London Victoria, where we said goodbye to the staff and thanked them for their wonderful service. It was a truly unforgettable day trip, full of charm, elegance, and adventure. This was a special day and yes if I had the chance would do all over again.
