Silversea is redefining the edge of luxury travel with the upcoming launch of The Cormorant at 55 South, a landmark hotel set to open in January 2026 in Puerto Williams, Chile.

Positioned as the southernmost luxury hotel on Earth, The Cormorant is more than a stopover—it’s a destination in its own right, offering guests a rare blend of comfort, discovery, and ecological immersion at the gateway to Antarctica.

Nestled in the heart of the remote Fuegian Archipelago, The Cormorant at 55 South has been designed to elevate the pre-expedition experience. “Our vision has always been to transform a journey that had to be endured into one our guests truly enjoy,” said Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea. “The Cormorant will be a new point for discovery at the edge of the world.”

A Hotel Inspired by Place

The Cormorant’s architecture and interiors reflect the rugged beauty of Tierra del Fuego, with natural materials, panoramic views, and a design ethos rooted in sustainability and local heritage. Named after the native bird species that frequent the region, the hotel is surrounded by Magellanic subpolar forests, fjords, and dramatic mountain ranges.

Guests will be able to choose from a curated selection of land experiences tailored to different activity levels—from guided hikes through Parque Municipal Ukika to kayaking in the Beagle Channel and birdwatching excursions that reveal the area’s rich biodiversity. The hotel’s location offers intimate access to wildlife including guanacos, condors, foxes, and marine life such as dolphins and seals.

Comfort at the Edge of the World

The Cormorant is designed to offer Silversea’s signature hospitality in one of the planet’s most remote settings. Every detail—from the guest rooms to the spa and dining—has been considered to ensure comfort, warmth, and a sense of place. The hotel will also serve as a seamless transition point for guests embarking on Silversea’s Antarctica Fly Cruise Expeditions.

Beginning in the 2025–2026 season, Silversea will offer a new direct charter flight from Santiago to Puerto Williams, reserved exclusively for its guests. The upgraded aircraft will feature enhanced seating, dedicated check-in, and premium onboard service, streamlining the journey and eliminating the need to cross the Drake Passage by sea.

A New Chapter in Expedition Hospitality

The Cormorant at 55 South marks a bold evolution in Silversea’s commitment to experiential luxury. It offers guests not just a place to rest, but a place to connect—with nature, with culture, and with the spirit of adventure that defines the journey to Antarctica.
