Leonardo Hotels Central Europe is moving ahead with a significant expansion of its German portfolio as it assumes control of four former IntercityHotels in Nuremberg, Freiburg, Magdeburg and Erfurt.

The transition is now in progress, with each property operating under a temporary white‑label identity while an extensive modernisation programme gets underway. The refurbishment work — spanning full guestroom updates and, in several cases, complete overhauls of bathrooms and public areas — is scheduled to conclude by the second quarter of 2026, at which point all four hotels will relaunch under the Leonardo Hotels brand.

The group describes the acquisition as a strategic milestone. Freiburg and Magdeburg introduce Leonardo to new markets, while the additional properties in Erfurt and Nuremberg deepen the brand’s presence in cities where demand continues to grow. With these additions, Leonardo Hotels will operate 73 hotels across Germany, reinforcing its position as one of the country’s most active mid‑to‑upscale operators.

Renovation work is being carried out while the hotels remain open, guided by a resource‑efficient approach that preserves high‑quality existing elements and selectively upgrades areas that require modernisation. Once complete, the hotels will adopt Leonardo’s contemporary design language, updated fixtures and signature service style — positioning them as attractive options for both corporate and leisure travellers.

The four properties all occupy prime locations directly adjacent to their respective main railway stations. Each brings a distinctive highlight: sound‑insulated rooms in Nuremberg, a garden terrace in Magdeburg, expansive meeting facilities of up to 381 square metres in Erfurt, and immediate access to Freiburg’s historic old town. Collectively, the hotels offer 638 rooms, strengthening Leonardo’s ability to serve business travellers seeking convenience, connectivity and modern amenities.
