Towards the end of day four at the Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier, flynas, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for a substantial order of 90 aircraft.
This includes 75 A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900, making it the largest order by aircraft number during the week.
The new fleet will augment flynas’ all-Airbus lineup, which serves international, domestic, and regional routes. The A330-900 aircraft will feature a two-class configuration, accommodating up to 400 passengers.
Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Executive Officer, Commercial Aircraft, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted to expand our partnership with flynas through this significant milestone for both A320neo and A330-900 aircraft. The A330neo will enable flynas to further penetrate widebody markets by building on the A320’s strengths, benefiting from Airbus’ unique commonality. Both aircraft types provide flynas with the versatility and economics needed to expand into new markets while offering passengers the latest cabin experience and comfort.”
Bander Almohanna, flynas CEO and Managing Director, highlighted the advantages of the new aircraft: “The A320neo Family offers exceptional operational performance and environmental benefits, enabling us to provide unique, low-cost travel experiences.” He also noted that the A330-900’s increased capacity and range, along with comparable seat costs, will help flynas stay competitive in the expanding regional market.
The signing ceremony was attended by H.E. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Duailej, President of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of Saudi Arabia, Ayed Al Jeaid, Chairman of the Board of NAS Holding, Bander Almohanna, and Christian Scherer.
The Airbus A330 family, like all Airbus aircraft, is designed to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a goal of 100% SAF capability by 2030.
