Alta Badia is positioning itself as one of the Dolomites’ standout spring skiing destinations, with longer days, reliable snow conditions and a packed calendar of cultural and gastronomic events running through March and early April.
Located in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Alta Badia continues skiing until 7 April. The resort has increasingly strengthened its reputation for combining high-performance alpine skiing with refined food and wine experiences, supported by efficient lift infrastructure and immaculately prepared pistes.
Wine meets skiing on the slopes
One of the highlights of the spring programme is Sommelier on the Slopes, which returns on 3, 10 and 31 March. The experience blends guided skiing with tastings of South Tyrol’s most prestigious wines at selected mountain huts. Participants are accompanied by both a ski instructor and a certified South Tyrolean sommelier, creating a rare pairing of sport and viticulture at altitude.
Ladin culture takes centre stage
Alta Badia’s strong local identity is showcased through Nos Ladins – We Ladins, a series of intimate encounters designed to connect visitors with Ladin traditions and everyday life. March events include behind-the-scenes insights into lift operations, reflections on the evolution of tourism in the valley, and a hands-on introduction to traditional Ladin pastry-making — all led by local residents.
Dawn skiing on the Gran Risa
On 5 March, skiers have the opportunity to experience the legendary Gran Risa at sunrise during Bun de Gran Risa. With early-morning lift access from La Villa, participants ski the World Cup giant slalom piste before the public opening, guided by instructors from the La Villa Ski & Snowboard School. The experience includes a simulated race start, technical insights and commemorative photos.
Ladin cuisine from hut to hut
From 15 to 22 March, the Roda dles Saus returns to the La Crusc ski area, celebrating Ladin cuisine in its most authentic form. Skiers move between huts, each serving a traditional dish prepared according to time-honoured family recipes, paired with South Tyrolean wines. The event reinforces Alta Badia’s growing reputation as a destination where alpine sport and gastronomy go hand in hand.
Sellaronda Skimarathon returns to Corvara
On 20 March, Corvara hosts the start of the 32nd edition of the Sellaronda Skimarathon. The night-time ski mountaineering race circles the Sella massif, drawing hundreds of athletes and spectators from across Europe and cementing its status as a benchmark event in the sport.
Wine Skisafari at 2,000 metres
Spring’s food and wine focus concludes on 22 March with the Wine Skisafari, an open-air tasting experience hosted at mountain huts including Piz Arlara, Ütia de Bioch, I Tablà and Pralongià. The event brings South Tyrol’s leading wines to altitude, offering skiers a final, elegant celebration of the season.
Celebrating 40 years of World Cup history
This winter also marks the 40th anniversary of World Cup racing on the Gran Risa. A photographic exhibition across the ski area traces the slope’s history through 20 striking images. On 24 March, visitors can join a guided ski tour with Roberto Erlacher, who stood on the podium at the first Gran Risa World Cup race in 1985, won by Ingemar Stenmark.
A retro finale to the season
The winter season closes on a nostalgic note with the Skicarousel Vintage Party on 6 April. Skiers are invited to don retro clothing and classic equipment for a vintage ski race on the La Para slope, one of the last in the area to retain a traditional drag lift. The event transforms Alta Badia into a throwback alpine resort, celebrating skiing’s heritage with humour and style.
With spring sunshine, cultural depth and a calendar rich in events, Alta Badia offers a compelling end-of-season proposition — where skiing in the Dolomites becomes as much about flavour, tradition and atmosphere as it is about time on the snow.
