From today, the vibrant city of Pittsburgh in Western Pennsylvania will be even more accessible to holidaymakers from the UK as British Airways’ direct flight from London Heathrow (LHR) to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) goes daily.

Operating year-round, the flight departs London at 16:40 and lands in Pittsburgh at 20:00 LT in just over eight hours. Fares start from £507 return per person in economy.

The birthplace of iconic pop artist Andy Warhol, Pittsburgh is a lively city that offers an affordable urban escape for those seeking an authentic US break. With over 30 different museums to explore, including the Heinz History Centre and Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and The Andy Warhol Museum – the largest museum dedicated to a single artist in North America, visitors will be spoiled for cultural choice.

Sports fans can enjoy a Steelers game at the impressive Acrisure Stadium or a baseball game at PCP Park, both of which offer scenic views of the city skyline and, for hungry travellers, Pittsburgh offers a worldly choice of cuisine. The city is particularly spectacular in the autumn when Pittsburgh’s tree-lined streets transform into a pretty palette of reds, oranges and yellows — an ideal setting for an exploration of the city’s 13-mile riverfront trail system on two wheels.

Jerad Bachar, CEO at VisitPITTSBURGH, commented: “We’re thrilled that the British Airways service continues to go from strength to strength and aligns us with these iconic destinations. Our city has so much to offer.  We’re looking forward to welcoming a new wave of travellers to discover what makes Pittsburgh so special.”

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said: “The US remains a priority market for us, and we know these network changes will be welcomed by both our business and leisure customers, providing more options than ever before to travel between the UK and the USA.”

The news comes as British Airways announces it will operate a record number of flights from London to the US, Canada and Mexico in Summer 2025, offering more than 400 direct flights per week during its peak weeks, including 26 US cities.
