One of London’s most celebrated hotels, the Chiltern Firehouse, has announced plans to reopen in April 2027, more than two years after a fire forced its closure.

The blaze broke out on Valentine’s Day 2025, tearing through the roof and upper floors of the landmark Marylebone property. Flames spread quickly from a pizza oven in the basement, igniting hidden cavities between floors.

More than 100 guests were evacuated safely as firefighters battled the incident. While no injuries were reported, the damage was extensive, leaving the building’s third floor and roof destroyed, and parts of the ground and second floors badly affected.

The Firehouse, originally a Victorian fire station before being converted into a 26‑suite hotel and restaurant, became a magnet for celebrities and tastemakers after opening in 2014 under owner André Balazs. Its closure has been keenly felt in London’s hospitality scene.

Restoration work is now underway, led by conservation architects familiar with the building’s heritage. The project is described as complex, requiring careful reconstruction of the historic structure while modernising facilities. The hotel’s insurance policy has provided cover for lost earnings during the refurbishment, allowing management to focus on bringing the property back to life without financial disruption.

When the doors reopen in 2027, the Chiltern Firehouse is expected to return as both a luxury retreat and a symbol of resilience—blending its storied past with a renewed commitment to contemporary hospitality.
