Dubai International Airport (DXB) has introduced a ground breaking innovation at passport control, designed to redefine the departure experience for business class travellers.

The newly launched ‘red carpet corridor’, a world-first smart tunnel system, enables passengers to pass through immigration without presenting a passport, boarding pass, or even pausing for verification.

Developed in collaboration between the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs Dubai (GDRFA) and Dubai Airports, the corridor is currently operational at Terminal 3’s business class departures. It uses a combination of artificial intelligence, biometric cameras, and integrated flight data to confirm identity, verify bookings, and process exit procedures—all within seconds.

Up to 10 passengers can walk through the tunnel simultaneously, making it one of the most efficient immigration systems globally. Travellers must pre-register and link their passport details to a biometric photo to use the service.

Speaking to the Dubai Media Office, Fatima Salim Almazrouei, Director of the Project Management Office at GDRFA Dubai, described the corridor as “a first-of-its-kind enhancement to our smart tunnel service.” She added, “The red carpet concept sends a clear message to the world that we are providing exceptional services at immigration touchpoints, where we are not only using a digital service but also enhancing the traveller experience.”

The corridor is part of a wider digital transformation strategy by GDRFA Dubai, which aims to introduce a new generation of AI-driven services across immigration and residency platforms. Future developments will expand the smart tunnel concept and introduce additional digital tools to streamline customer interactions.

For business travellers, the red carpet corridor offers more than convenience—it represents a shift towards seamless, contactless travel, where time-sensitive journeys are supported by intelligent infrastructure. As airports worldwide race to modernise, DXB’s innovation sets a new benchmark for how technology can elevate the passenger experience.

With Dubai continuing to position itself as a global hub for business and luxury travel, the red carpet corridor is a timely enhancement that reflects both ambition and execution. Travellers flying business class through Terminal 3 can now expect a departure process that’s not only faster—but smarter.
