Airline’s noise-efficient operations set new benchmark for sustainable connectivity at one of the world’s busiest airports
Emirates has been awarded Gold Tier status in New York JFK Airport’s 2024 Fly Quiet Programme — the only airline to achieve this top distinction. With a score of 92.9, Emirates outperformed all other carriers participating in the voluntary initiative, which encourages quieter aircraft operations and noise abatement procedures.
Developed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Fly Quiet Programme recognises airlines that minimise their acoustic footprint through fleet choices, runway preferences, and operational discipline. Emirates’ recognition reflects years of collaboration with the Port Authority and sustained efforts by its Flight Operations team to exceed programme requirements.
For business travellers, this accolade underscores the airline’s commitment to responsible long-haul connectivity. Emirates’ wide-body fleet — including the Airbus A380 — delivers high-capacity, long-range service with optimised noise output. A single aircraft serving 500 passengers generates just one arrival and one departure noise event, compared to multiple flights and tech-stops required by smaller aircraft.
Why It Matters for Business Travel:
- Quieter skies, better sleep: Reduced noise impact benefits airport-adjacent communities and overnight travellers alike
- Operational efficiency: Emirates’ model supports fewer flights with fuller aircraft, ideal for high-volume business routes
- Sustainability in practice: Noise abatement aligns with broader ESG goals for corporate travel programmes
The airline’s noise reduction strategy includes strict adherence to Noise Abatement Departure Procedures (NADP), proactive use of preferential runways, and transparent monitoring of crew compliance. Emirates also engages in airport authority roundtables and maintains rigorous reporting standards.
This latest recognition at JFK follows previous honours at Newark and San Francisco, reinforcing Emirates’ leadership in sustainable aviation practices — a growing priority for business travellers and travel managers worldwide.
