Gatwick Airport has raised its drop-off charge to £7, aiming to curb congestion and fund sustainable transport projects. Find out how this impacts travel plans.
Gatwick Airport has announced an increase in its drop-off zone charges, raising the minimum fee to £7 from Friday, marking the second price hike in two years. The previous increase in January 2024 saw the cost rise from £5 to £6.
A Gatwick spokesperson stated that the fee adjustment is designed to limit the number of vehicles, reduce congestion at terminal entrances, and support the airport’s sustainable transport initiatives. The airport is encouraging passengers to opt for public transport instead, aligning with its broader eco-friendly vision.
For those looking to avoid the charge, Gatwick continues to offer free drop-off options at its long-stay car parks, with a complimentary shuttle service to the terminals. Additionally, Blue Badge holders remain exempt from the drop-off fee.
Payment for the charge can be made via online platforms, phone transactions, or an account setup, ensuring convenience for travellers.
The revenue generated from this fee has contributed to sustainable transport investments, such as Gatwick’s £1 million funding of Metrobus routes in 2025. The airport aims to achieve 60% of all journeys to and from Gatwick using zero or ultra-low emission transport by 2030.
While the fee may prompt some frustration among motorists, Gatwick insists that these measures will drive long-term environmental benefits and improve efficiency for passengers.
