Heathrow is aiming to welcome 84.2 million passengers in 2025, following a bumper year in which the London hub served 83.9 million travellers.

The airport hit several records in 2024, including its busiest December to date – over seven million passengers passed through Heathrow in that month alone, surpassing a previous Christmas Day milestone with 160,000 flyers, 13% more than the same day in 2023.

These figures slightly exceeded Heathrow’s autumn projection and were three million higher than the annual record set in 2019. Equally notable was Heathrow’s strong operational performance: 92% of customers cleared security in under five minutes during 2024.

Chief executive Thomas Woldbye, who took the helm from John Holland-Kaye in October 2023, lauded the airport team and partners for delivering “great experiences for more passengers than ever before”. He added that Heathrow’s focus in 2025 is to keep improving value for both travellers and airlines, ramping up investment in new facilities and innovative solutions.

In line with broader industry trends, Heathrow this week announced its aim to ensure that 3% of aviation fuel used at the airport is Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) during 2025 – surpassing the UK government’s SAF Mandate of 2%.
