Hotel du Vin has announced the continuation of its ambitious bedroom refurbishment programme, with plans to renovate the historic Sugar House in Bristol and Cannizaro House in Wimbledon by the end of the year.
Having already invested £9 million since the project began four years ago, the hotel group has reached the halfway mark of its mission to upgrade all bedrooms across its 19 properties. Spearheaded by designer Anita Rosato, the refresh has so far transformed 10 properties and 465 bedrooms, blending old-world charm with modern luxury.
The project kicked off at One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow’s West End, a collection of five townhouses dating back to the 1870s. Subsequent refurbishments have been completed at the Poole and Cheltenham locations, with a £900,000 upgrade of Hotel du Vin York finalised in spring 2024, just in time for the brand’s 30th anniversary.
In addition to the guestroom renovations, the bars and bistros at the Birmingham, Bristol City, and Exeter hotels were refurbished in 2023, bringing the total investment to £11.5 million.
Scott Harper, COO at Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, commented: “Elevating the quality of our hotels underscores our dedication to enhancing guest experience. With the new design concepts carefully preserving each building’s history, we aim to strengthen our connections within the local communities in which we operate. As we prepare to celebrate our 30th anniversary, we continue to prioritise leading the way in the UK lifestyle hotel sector, consistently setting new standards of excellence across the hospitality industry.”
Anita Rosato added: “I am incredibly lucky to have the unwavering support of the development team at Hotel du Vin. Even though the work we do can be quite complex and challenging, we manage to find ways to have fun with it. Given the unique historic nature and structure of the buildings we work with, there is a tremendous amount of work expended to ensure that each room is preserved and presented in the best possible light, with no two rooms ever quite the same.”
