Luxury hotel, Thompson Madrid, has opened its doors in the Spanish capital, marking the brand’s first property in Spain as well as its debut in Europe.
Part of the Hyatt Hotel’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio, brand “channels local creative energy” through design and cuisine to create a sense of place. According to the company, each Thompson hotel “serves as an inspiring home base for guests and creatives alike to connect with each other”.
The 175-room Thompson Madrid features bold interiors that reflect the city’s rich heritage, and two dining venues, including a rooftop bar, that serve traditional Spanish fare “with a twist”. A speakeasy-style bar is also planned to open this autumn.
Located on Calle De La Montera, which connects the city’s main square, Puerta del Sol, the hotel is housed in two historic buildings and is walking distance from Madrid’s historic city as well as the buzzing neighbourhoods of Malasaña and Chueca.
For meetings and events, the hotel features six individual venues, each “designed to encourage creative thinking and connection” and with a total capacity for up to 321 guests.
There’s also a rooftop infinity pool, an open-air courtyard and 24-hour fitness centre. Hotel guests, meanwhile, are offered “exclusive access” to experiences across the city, including tours, art exhibitions and concerts.
“We are excited to welcome guests to Thompson Madrid and invite them to immerse themselves into the culture of the city, which can be found inside and outside the walls of the hotel,” said general manager Carlos Erburu Zazpe.
Following the opening of the first Thompson hotel in downtown New York City more than 20 years ago, the portfolio currently features close to 20 properties, largely across the Americas, with Hyatt eyeing Europe for further expansion. Following the brand’s debut in Spain, a second Thompson-branded property, Thompson Vienna, is slated to open in 2024.
