The Iberia Emerald Lounge officially opens today, 10 September 2026, in Terminal 4 at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, giving the Spanish airline’s most valued frequent flyers a new flagship space at its main hub.
For UK business travellers, the news lies in who gets through the door. Entry is not confined to Iberia’s own loyalty scheme, and eligible members in the Spanish capital before 27 September can also try out a recreation of the lounge at Espacio Iberia, the airline’s annual showcase, now in its fifth year.
Who can use the Iberia Emerald Lounge?
Access is reserved for Iberia Club members at Platinum level and above, together with holders of equivalent oneworld status. For UK travellers, that means British Airways Club Gold members qualify, because their tier corresponds to oneworld Emerald, the alliance’s highest level. British Airways Club Silver members, whose tier matches oneworld Sapphire, are not eligible.
For companies whose staff fly to Spain regularly, it is one more benefit attached to top-tier status with Iberia, British Airways or their oneworld partners. Access rules can change, so it is worth checking Iberia’s Emerald Lounge Sorolla page before flying.
Where to find the Emerald Lounge Sorolla
The Iberia Emerald Lounge Sorolla, to give it its full name, sits on the Schengen side of Terminal 4 next to Iberia’s existing Dalí lounge. It serves boarding areas H, J, K and M, which handle short and medium-haul departures.
Covering 800 square metres with space for 128 guests, it offers private rest cabins, showers and a 360-degree bar permanently staffed by a bartender and a barista. Breakfast brings pastries, tomato-rubbed toast and hot dishes cooked to order, followed by tapas through the day and a lunch menu inspired by the Mediterranean diet. The furniture is the work of Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola.
Its position decides who will get the most from it. Travellers flying in from the UK and connecting to a Spanish domestic or European flight within the Schengen area should find it on their way, and the showers and rest cabins will suit a longer layover. Flights to the UK and Iberia’s long-haul services leave from non-Schengen gates, so anyone hoping to call in before those departures should leave time to clear passport control afterwards.
With Madrid among the three most popular destinations in BizAway’s ranking of top business travel destinations, the Iberia Emerald Lounge is a useful addition for firms managing business travel to Spain, particularly where the same employees pass through Terminal 4 several times a year and already hold the status needed to get in.
Espacio Iberia is being held at the Official College of Architects of Madrid on Calle Hortaleza in the city centre, with free entry and doors usually open from 11am to 8pm daily. The lounge recreation is one of its main attractions, built around a circular 360-degree bar that shows off parts of the food and drink offer. The programme shifts through the day, taking in coffee, vermouth, afternoon social sessions and cocktails.
Iberia says the experience mirrors the airport rules, so Platinum members and above, plus equivalent oneworld status holders, can book it free of charge. For eligible travellers in Madrid on business this month, that makes it an easy way to size up the lounge before their next trip through Terminal 4. Details are set out in Iberia’s announcement of this year’s Espacio Iberia.
Elsewhere at the event, visitors can explore Airbus A350 cabins, try a flight simulator and discover the airline’s newest destinations through interactive experiences powered by artificial intelligence. Among them is Fortaleza, one of Iberia’s new routes to north-east Brazil.
