InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, proudly announces the grand opening of the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk.
This 390-room hotel, featuring over 18,000 square feet of meeting space and four distinctive restaurants and bars, sets a new benchmark for luxury accommodation in Texas.
Strategically located just one mile from the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Centre and steps from San Antonio’s iconic River Walk, the 21-story hotel offers guests convenient access to many of the city’s attractions, including The Alamo, The Pearl, and La Villita Historic Village. Additionally, the hotel provides direct access to a water taxi landing zone, offering an alternative and scenic mode of transport.
“The InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk embodies the vibrant culture and rich heritage of San Antonio,” said General Manager Stefan Gruvberger. “Whether you’re a local seeking a cultivated retreat or a visitor eager to explore our city’s charms, the hotel’s luxury accommodations and amenities offer something for everyone.”
Owned by Trailbreak Partners in collaboration with Scarlett Hotel Group, the property boasts high-end amenities such as a rooftop pool, 24-hour in-room dining, on-site valet, a dedicated house car, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, and a Club InterContinental Lounge.
The hotel’s expansive event space includes the stunning 8,200-square-foot Pecan Ballroom with 18-foot ceilings, flexible conference areas, a boardroom equipped with the latest A/V technology, and 10 meeting rooms, all featuring built-in food and beverage stations and panoramic views of San Antonio.
Designed by Leo A Daly, the hotel’s aesthetic blends mid-century architecture with modern finishes, incorporating organic textures and materials reflective of San Antonio. The decor features plush velvet furniture in vibrant colours, complemented by a neutral colour palette and rich finishes of brass, marble, dark wood, cognac leather, and glass. Behind the arrivals desk, an abstract contemporary work of Joan Crawford pays homage to her 1954 film “Johnny Guitar.” The concierge gallery showcases local products, artisans, and activities, connecting guests to the city’s cultural fabric.
Collaborating with Heartwood Hospitality, the hotel presents four unique dining and bar experiences under the creative direction of Executive Chef Andres Farias, who also oversees in-room dining and catering services.
This opening is part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ extensive 2024 development plan in Texas, which includes 15 new properties across eight brands. The debut of the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk underscores InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ seven-decade legacy of pioneering luxury travel in new and emerging destinations.
