For business travellers navigating Europe’s culinary landscape, Parmigiano Reggiano remains an undisputed staple – whether enjoyed in a Michelin-starred restaurant or grated atop a quick pasta dish between meetings.
In 2024, the world-renowned cheese set a new record, achieving €3.2bn in turnover, marking a 4.9% increase compared to the previous year. Despite trade restrictions and global uncertainties, exports surged 13.7%, now accounting for 48.7% of total sales, with key markets including the United States, France, Germany, the UK, and Canada.
The Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium continues to safeguard its Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, investing €28.4m in marketing and consumer education to differentiate its cheese from imitation products flooding international shelves. By highlighting its maturation process, origin, and artisanal production methods, the Consortium aims to reinforce Parmigiano Reggiano’s status as a premium product and global icon of Italian craftsmanship.
