As Orkney gets ready to welcome over 2,000 competitors and officials from across the world as hosts of the International Island Games, organisers have announced Loganair as the official airline partner.
Confirmed as the biggest event Orkney has ever hosted, the UK’s largest regional airline, Loganair, will step in to bring athletes and supporters alike to the island.
As part of the sponsorship, the airline is proudly offering complimentary travel for key officials to enable the games to take place.
Orkney will host the 20th International Island Games in its landmark 40th year since it first began, joining other host alumni, including Bermuda, Gotland, Gibraltar, and Guernsey. The Games, taking place from 12 to 18 July 2025, will bring together athletes from 24 island groups to compete in 12 sports: archery, athletics, badminton, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, lawn bowls, sailing, squash, swimming, and triathlon.
Luke Lovegrove, Chief Commercial Officer at Loganair, said: “It’s fantastic for Orkney to host such a landmark event for Island communities across the globe, and we’re proud to partner with the organisers to play a key role in enabling the games. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to fostering community engagement and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Orkney.”
Orkney 2025 Games Chair Gordon Deans said: “In 2025, the Orkney International Island Games will be the largest multi-sports event anywhere in Europe, providing a unique platform to showcase Orkney – from its natural beauty and welcoming people to its amazing products and future-facing businesses and industries.
We are delighted that Loganair is announced as the official airline partner of The Games. They will have an incredibly important part to play by ensuring that our officials are transported to Orkney from across the UK.”
