Lufthansa Group is set to transform inflight connectivity with the launch of free, high‑speed Starlink internet, beginning on 19 August 2026 when the first Lufthansa Airbus A320neo takes off equipped with the new system.

The airline group describes the rollout as the start of “a new era” in onboard experience, offering passengers internet speeds that in many cases exceed those available at home or in the office .

The technology uses low‑Earth‑orbit satellites, enabling passengers to stream video, work in cloud platforms and use high‑bandwidth applications throughout the flight . Lufthansa Group will equip around 850 aircraft across Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and other group carriers by 2029, making it the largest airline group in Europe to commit to this level of connectivity .

For business travellers, the impact is immediate: uninterrupted productivity, real‑time collaboration and the ability to work as if on the ground. The service will be free for all Miles & More members and Travel ID users, sponsored by Mastercard, and available across all travel classes .

To maintain cabin comfort, Lufthansa has introduced new usage rules based on passenger feedback. Travellers must wear headphones for all audio and video, avoid voice and video calls, and refrain from live streaming during the flight .

The Starlink project forms part of Lufthansa Group’s wider investment in new aircraft and service innovations across the entire travel chain, reinforcing connectivity as a core element of its premium offering. As Chief Commercial Officer Dieter Vranckx notes, high‑speed internet is now “an integral part of a truly outstanding onboard experience” .

For frequent flyers, this marks one of the most significant inflight upgrades in years — a shift from patchy, slow Wi‑Fi to a reliable, high‑performance connection that finally meets the needs of modern business travel.
