UK business travellers adding a weekend to a Palma trip are being offered a different way to spend it. Purobeach Resort Santa Ponsa, on Mallorca’s south-west coast, has set out a 48-hour Mallorca bleisure break that swaps the sun lounger for the GR221 trail, the padel court and the first tee.
The resort sits in the hills above Santa Ponsa, roughly 30 minutes from Palma, between the Mediterranean and the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana. That location matters for anyone flying in for meetings in the capital: a short transfer puts the island’s main outdoor attractions within easy reach without a hire car or a long drive.
Hiking and cycling in the Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana runs along Mallorca’s north-west coast and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Listfor its dry-stone terraces and mountain scenery. Its trail network has made it one of Spain’s leading hiking regions, while its mountain roads and long climbs have given it a global reputation among road cyclists. The GR221 long-distance path lies around ten minutes from the resort.
Guests can book guided hiking and cycling through the concierge, with routes adjusted to fitness, ambition and interest and led by local instructors. Cycling itineraries are built around individual goals, with many starting in the village of Deia, and the resort can add bike transport, support vehicles and route planning. That is useful for time-poor travellers who want a serious ride without packing a bike or spending an evening plotting a route. The wider Calvia area has also been investing in walking infrastructure, as we reported when the municipality launched a new hiking trail network.
Padel and tennis on Rafael Nadal’s home island
Mallorca’s racquet-sport credentials are well established. The island produced Rafael Nadal and has also nurtured Carlos Moya, Nuria Llagostera and Tomeu Salva, and its climate supports hundreds of courts in use all year. Padel, now Spain’s second most popular sport after football, has become a fixture of island life, with the social side of the game, matches that drift into long lunches, as much of a draw as the competition.
For a visiting executive the practical appeal is obvious. A padel session is short, easy to arrange and works as an informal setting for a client or colleague. Resort guests have access to tennis and padel courts at the nearby Mallorca Country Club, with private coaching available for those who want to improve or a casual hit for anyone simply wanting an hour outside.
Golf packages around Calvia
Mallorca has more than 20 golf courses, with a cluster in the south-west around Calvia that includes Golf Santa Ponsa, Golf Andratx and Arabella Golf Palma. The resort will arrange tee times at each, and has partnered with Golf Andratx on a dedicated golf package that combines access to the course with the spa and recovery facilities back at the hotel.
Golf remains one of the most reliable ways to extend a business trip productively, and Mallorca joins established short-haul options such as Portugal, which we covered in our look at bleisure golf in the Algarve. Frequent flights from UK regional airports into Palma, a transfer of under an hour and a mild climate outside peak summer all count in its favour for a Friday-to-Sunday add-on.
The island has been working to reposition itself for corporate visitors, a trend we examined in why business travellers are returning to Mallorca. Full details of the resort and its activity programme are on the Puro Group website.
For UK travellers the message is simple: a Palma meeting no longer has to end at the airport. With trails, courts and fairways all reachable in under half an hour, two extra nights can be as active as the week that preceded them.
