Mandarin Oriental has announce the grand opening of its second London property, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, situated in the historic Hanover Square.

This sleek, boutique sibling to the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park offers 50 guestrooms and suites, 77 private residences, Chef Akira Back’s first London restaurant, two stylish bars, and a luxurious spa.

Designed by the internationally acclaimed Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is the first new build in Mayfair in over a decade, featuring a unique Vierendeel structure. This innovative design creates spacious interiors and an elegant facade clad in burnt red brick ‘baguettes’, the longest in the UK, inspired by the Georgian terraces surrounding the hotel.

Inside, the hotel’s design continues to reflect its prestigious location. British-based Studio Indigo has meticulously crafted the interiors, blending Mandarin Oriental’s Asian heritage with locally inspired elements. Each guest room, imagined as a jewellery box, features rich emerald green, regal maroon, and tranquil turquoise palettes. Fine timbers, marbles, soft fabrics, bespoke lighting, and furniture, along with metallic finishes in brass, bronze, and gold, create a luxurious atmosphere. House of de Gournay hand-painted silk wallpaper, with a flowering magnolia design, adds an exquisite focal point to the rooms, nodding to Hanover Square’s trees and Mandarin Oriental’s oriental roots.

The hotel’s public spaces, including the reception, atrium, Akira Back restaurant, ABar Lounge, the 14-seater chef’s table Dosa, private dining rooms, and the spa, have been designed by Tokyo-based agency Curiosity. These spaces use colour and texture to create an atmospheric setting, with elements reflecting the natural surroundings of Hanover Square, Berkeley Square, and Green Park.

Award-winning Chef Akira Back makes his UK debut at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. Born in Korea and raised in Colorado, Chef Back brings his adventurous spirit and creativity to his culinary creations. His restaurant, seating 148 guests and featuring three private dining rooms, will offer signature dishes such as the ‘AB Tuna Pizza’. The 14-seater Dosa offers a contemporary Korean culinary theatre experience, while the ABar Lounge provides an artistic cocktail programme and live DJ performances. The ABar Rooftop, opening in 2024, will offer panoramic views of the London skyline.

For those seeking relaxation, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair offers innovative wellness treatments, including binaural biohacking therapies and exclusive experiences inspired by Mayfair. The spa features a 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools, experience showers, a state-of-the-art gym, personal training, reformer Pilates, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy, and NormaTec massage technology.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is within walking distance of Bond Street’s fashion houses, Saville Row boutiques, and numerous auction houses and art galleries. This new hotel provides a stylish base in one of London’s most sought-after areas, offering exclusive access to high fashion, art, culture, and dining experiences.

Developed and owned by Clivedale London, an independent Mayfair-based developer, the overall project includes the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair and the 77 Residences at Mandarin Oriental, bringing super-prime property to London, W1. For guests and locals familiar with Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park in Knightsbridge, this new property offers another luxurious way to experience the Mandarin Oriental brand, inspired by the vibrancy and creativity of its new neighbourhood.
