Mandarin Oriental has announced the opening of Mandarin Oriental, Muscat, marking the Group’s debut in the Sultanate of Oman.
This new urban resort, featuring both hotel accommodations and branded residences, boasts a distinctive architectural design that takes full advantage of stunning views over the Arabian Sea. Located in the prestigious Shatti Al-Qurum neighbourhood, it offers easy access to Muscat’s ancient architectural treasures and vibrant culture, all set against the majestic backdrop of the Hajar Mountains.
Designed by renowned French interior designer Xavier Cartron, the hotel’s architecture draws deeply from Oman’s rich cultural heritage. Guests enter through grand Omani wooden doors into a lobby that seamlessly blends influences from various regions and civilizations, celebrating Oman’s cultural and artisanal legacy. Three central fountains honour the diverse cultural tapestry of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, while a stunning chandelier with colourful crystal lanterns illuminates the lobby. The captivating sea views framed by coconut and palm trees invite guests to explore Muscat’s allure and mystique.
The 103 guestrooms and 47 suites are inspired by the natural beauty of Oman, featuring locally sourced materials such as Desert Rose marble and Ashwood. Each handcrafted piece is designed to evoke the country’s treasures, with details like bed backboards inspired by the traditional Omani “Kuma” hat and brass lanterns reminiscent of the iconic “Khanjar” daggers. The 156 private homes at The Residences at Mandarin Oriental offer an unmatched waterfront lifestyle with exceptional comfort and service.
Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Raymond Rjaily, the hotel’s five distinct restaurants and lounge promise a range of international cuisines. The signature restaurant, Essenza, takes diners on a journey through Italy’s coastal regions with traditional recipes passed down through generations. The Mandarin Cake Shop, led by Executive Pastry Chef Stephane Tranchet, offers indulgent pastries, cakes, and viennoiseries, along with specialty teas and coffees. Tranchet’s renowned “cloud cake” is a highlight, showcasing his pastry expertise.
