Marriott International has marked a significant milestone in its South Asia expansion with the launch of The Soaltee Kathmandu, Autograph Collection, the brand’s first property in Nepal and its debut Autograph Collection Hotel in the region.
This opening also brings the total number of Marriott Bonvoy brands operating across India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to 19.
Located in the heart of Kathmandu’s Tahachal district, The Soaltee Kathmandu brings together the city’s deep-rooted cultural legacy with Autograph Collection’s ethos of one-of-a-kind experiences. Originally established in 1966 and long regarded as one of Nepal’s most iconic hospitality destinations, the newly reimagined property offers 285 rooms and suites—each carefully designed to reflect Nepalese tradition, craftsmanship, and storytelling.
Guests can expect sweeping views of the Himalayan range and sacred landmarks such as the Swoyambhunath Stupa, alongside refined interiors that blend modern luxury with traditional materials like carved wooden jaalis, exposed brick, and intricate Thangka paintings.
Autograph Collection Hotels are renowned for properties that carry a strong individual identity and narrative. The Soaltee Kathmandu is no exception, introducing “The Storyteller,” a curated experience throughout the hotel’s public spaces that uses artefacts, personal histories and guest contributions to tell the story of the hotel’s enduring legacy.
“This is a proud milestone for Marriott International,” said Ranju Alex, Regional Vice President – South Asia, Marriott International. “South Asia continues to be a dynamic growth engine for our portfolio, and The Soaltee Kathmandu is a perfect fit for Autograph Collection’s vision of immersive, story-driven stays.”
Steeped in heritage, Kathmandu offers visitors an eclectic blend of ancient temples, UNESCO World Heritage sites, vibrant street life and spiritual richness. The Soaltee Kathmandu provides an ideal base to explore this historic capital while offering the comforts of modern hospitality.
The culinary offering is a highlight of the guest experience, with multiple dining destinations on-site. These include Garden Terrace, serving authentic Nepali thali; Kakori, specialising in Awadhi-Indian cuisine; and Bao Xuan, which offers traditional Chinese dishes. Patio provides open-air dining with live music, while Rodi Bar and the Sports Loungedeliver stylish social spaces for drinks and entertainment.
The hotel also features an indulgent wellness offering, with a full-service spa blending traditional therapies and contemporary treatments such as Shirodhara, Hot Stone Therapy, and the Newari Massage. Guests can also unwind in the outdoor pool, take advantage of a 24-hour gym with state-of-the-art facilities, or enjoy a game on the clay tennis court.
With over 25,000 sq ft of indoor and outdoor event space, The Soaltee Kathmandu, Autograph Collection is positioned to become one of the city’s most sought-after destinations for weddings, conferences, and grand celebrations. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Himalayas and spread across 12 acres of lush landscaped grounds, the hotel offers a truly memorable venue for any gathering.
Environmental responsibility is central to the hotel’s ethos. Sustainability initiatives include an in-house water bottling plant to reduce plastic use, an on-site herb garden, waste reduction systems, energy-efficient technologies, and a commitment to sourcing materials locally where possible.
Speaking at the launch, Avinash Deshmukh, General Manager of The Soaltee Kathmandu, said: “We are incredibly proud to welcome guests to the first Autograph Collection property in South Asia. With its unique heritage, location, and the immersive experience we offer, we are confident this will become a flagship destination within the brand.”
