As demand for nature-led running experiences continues to grow, with AirBnB and Strava suggesting 74% of Gen Z travellers seeking rural “runcations” and Contiki confirming active travel bookings up 105% year-on-year, Mauritius is set to deliver once again.
The Beachcomber Trail returns on Saturday 25th July 2026 for a high-energy new edition. Since its inception, the event has attracted over a thousand participants annually from Mauritius and beyond, combining technical forest routes, beach sections and breathtaking viewpoints to showcase the raw beauty of the island’s Wild South. Carefully mapped by passionate trail runners, the course leads participants along some of the region’s most remote and spectacular paths.
The Beachcomber Trail offers three iconic routes, catering to different experience levels and skills. Listed on the Rando-Trail and Nature (RTN) calendar, each course presents unique challenges and breathtaking scenery, allowing participants to discover the wild beauty of southern Mauritius. Mapped out by true enthusiasts, participants set off from Case Noyale (65 km), Usine d’Union (25 km) and Ruines de Savinia (10 km) to be taken along the most remote trails of the island’s wild south, culminating at a shared finish line on the beach of Shandrani Beachcomber Resort & Spa.
This year brings an exciting addition: a relay option for the headline 65km race. Teams of three can now tackle this epic challenge, each member taking on a distinctive leg:
- Relay 1: Case Noyale – Alexandra Falls (17 km)
- Relay 2: Alexandra Falls – Rochester Falls (15 km)
- Relay 3: Rochester Falls – Shandrani Beachcomber (33 km)
In keeping with its long-standing respect for the island’s pristine environment, the Beachcomber Trail 2026 reinforces its eco-responsible approach with several strong measures. There will be no disposable cups, zero plastic and responsible marketing through use of biodegradable materials and systematic removal of all markings after the race. This commitment reflects the trail’s core philosophy, to celebrate the island’s natural beauty while protecting it.
Karine Perrier Curé, Chief Brand & Communication Officer at Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels, shares: “More than just a race, the Beachcomber Trail is a shared adventure that has fostered a strong community of passionate runners. Over the years, many friendships have been formed along the trails, and the finish line has always been filled with emotion. This break has allowed us to rethink the event to return with an even more flexible edition, particularly with the relay format. We can’t wait to welcome runners back in 2026, with renewed energy”.
