Nearly 200 Ryanair passengers were forced to evacuate using emergency slides after their plane caught fire at Brindisi Airport in Italy.

The incident occurred as the aircraft was preparing for take-off, with flames reportedly emanating from one of the engines.

Firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency, and the flight was immediately aborted. All 184 passengers on board were safely evacuated using the inflatable slides. The quick and efficient response ensured that there were no injuries reported.

As a result of the incident, Brindisi Airport, located in the south of Italy, has been temporarily closed. A spokesperson for Aeroporti di Puglia stated, “Due to a problem with a departing aircraft, it was necessary to close the Salento Airport in Brindisi. The issue, which occurred when the aircraft was already aligned for take-off, required the evacuation of passengers via emergency slides.”

The spokesperson further assured that all operations were conducted with maximum safety for both passengers and crew. The evacuated passengers are currently being assisted by Aeroporti di Puglia personnel at the airport. Technicians are working diligently to assess and address the situation, ensuring the runway’s usability before the airport can be reopened.

This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and the effectiveness of safety protocols in ensuring passenger safety during unforeseen events. Travelling for Business will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
