In a move aimed at modernizing its border control and enhancing traveller convenience, Saint Kitts and Nevis has launched a new Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) system.

The two-island nation hopes this digital upgrade will streamline arrivals while reinforcing security measures.

Digital Transformation for Smarter Travel

The Saint Kitts and Nevis government announced the introduction of the eTA this week, positioning itself alongside global leaders in smart border management. Officials highlight the initiative’s dual benefits – ensuring safer borders while maintaining the country’s reputation as an open and welcoming destination.

How the eTA Works: Cost and Application Process

All international visitors to Saint Kitts and Nevis must now obtain an approved eTA before boarding their flight. The system is accessible through the recently launched St Kitts and Nevis e-Border mobile app, available for Android and iOS.

A promotional eTA fee of $8.50 is in effect until September 1, 2025, after which the standard fee of $17 will apply. Travellers can also submit their applications via the official website www.knatravelform.kn, ensuring flexibility for those without app access.

For travellers opting to use the mobile app, Fast-Track Arrival will be available from June 2, featuring a Facial Biometric Corridor designed to expedite entry processing.

Efficient Processing Times and Validity

The application process is designed to be swift and straightforward, taking approximately five minutes to complete. Visitors must provide their basic travel details and required documentation, after which approval is granted electronically before travel.

eTA applications can be submitted up to 90 days prior to arrival and remain valid for 90 days or until the passport’s expiration date.

Why This Matters: Key Benefits of the eTA System

The introduction of the eTA represents a significant milestone in Saint Kitts and Nevis’ broader commitment to digital transformation. Key benefits include:

  • Enhanced National Security – Pre-arrival screening allows for improved risk assessment.
  • Streamlined Entry Process – Reduced wait times and faster immigration clearance.
  • Fully Digitalized Travel Experience – Integration with services like online customs declarations and SIM card purchases.
  • Operational Efficiency – Fewer manual document checks, freeing up border control resources.

Exceptions to the Requirement

While the system applies to most international visitors, citizens and residents of Saint Kitts and Nevis, as well as nationals from OECS member states, are exempt from obtaining an eTA. However, they must still complete an Online Immigration and Customs ED Form via the mobile app or website.

Additional exemptions include accredited diplomats, children under two, in-transit passengers, on-duty flight or vessel crew members, and active military or search-and-rescue personnel.

The Future of Travel in Saint Kitts and Nevis

With its focus on efficiency, security, and digital innovation, Saint Kitts and Nevis is poised to set a new standard for Caribbean travel. The eTA system marks a significant step forward in ensuring a seamless experience for visitors while upholding national security priorities.
