The Dominican Republic has cemented its position as the leading Caribbean destination for tourists, achieving a record-breaking influx of 10 million visitors in 2023.

This milestone marks a significant leap for the country, drawing 7,863,542 tourists by air and 2,168,209 cruise passengers.

This 21.6% increase from 2022, and a staggering 36.5% rise since 2019, highlights the Dominican Republic’s burgeoning appeal on the global tourism stage. Not only has it topped the Caribbean charts, but it also ranks among the top five destinations in the Americas.

Minister Collado expressed his pride, stating, “Reaching 10 million tourists between air and cruise ships is a fact that should fill the entire country with pride, regardless of political flags, since each of these visitors are friends of the country who contribute to development, employment to the countryside, to construction, and the entire productive apparatus of the country continuing to grow.”

These figures reflect the Dominican Republic’s robust growth in tourism, having surged from 6.4 million visitors in 2019 to over 10 million today. The nation leads in post-COVID tourism recovery, with its success recognised by international organisations, solidifying its status as a premier travel destination.
