In August 2025, retail legend George Davies, founder of Next, George at Asda, and Per Una, opened his first hotel in the Cotswolds: The House of George W. Davies.
Located on Broadway’s iconic high street, this boutique property occupies a beautifully restored 17th-century building that once served as the village GP surgery. Davies, who has lived locally since 1989, purchased the site in 2021 and spent nearly four years transforming it into a refined retreat that blends heritage with contemporary design.
The hotel features 10 individually styled en-suite rooms: six in the main building, showcasing original timber beams, stained glass, and vaulted ceilings; and four in a newly built courtyard annexe, offering air conditioning and accessible layouts. Each room is thoughtfully appointed with premium British-made furnishings, concealed TVs, wool throws from Moon, and handmade glass lighting by Rothschild & Bickers. The HG monogram appears throughout, from water bottles to bathroom details – a nod to Davies’ design pedigree.
For business travellers, amenities include free on-site parking, EV charging, WiFi, and a serene garden terrace ideal for post-meeting downtime. The in-house restaurant, MODA, helmed by James Wilson (formerly of The Newt in Somerset), offers a tasting menu that fuses British ingredients with Nordic flair—perfect for client entertaining or solo indulgence. A private dining room seats up to 10, and the cocktail lounge adds a stylish touch for informal networking.
Why stay? The House of George W. Davies offers more than luxury—it’s a masterclass in detail-driven hospitality. Whether you’re escaping the city for a working retreat or hosting meetings in style, this Cotswolds gem delivers comfort, character, and culinary excellence in equal measure.
