The Imperial Bloomsbury will reopen in summer 2026 following a major renovation, introducing 357 rooms, mid-century interiors and a rooftop bar overlooking Russell Square.

The Imperial Bloomsbury is set to reopen in summer 2026 following what owners describe as the most ambitious transformation in its 120-year history.

Overlooking Russell Square, the hotel’s modernist façade has long been a defining feature of Bloomsbury. That architectural presence will be retained and celebrated as the property enters a new chapter, blending heritage with a contemporary lifestyle-led approach.

When it reopens, The Imperial will offer 357 rooms and suites, designed to combine understated luxury with mid-century modern influences. Interiors will reference the building’s history while incorporating contemporary finishes and thoughtful details aimed at today’s urban traveller.

The redevelopment extends beyond guest rooms. The hotel’s public areas are being reimagined as social spaces designed to welcome both visitors and Londoners, with curated programming intended to encourage interaction and community engagement.

A tenth-floor rooftop bar will be a centrepiece of the relaunch, offering panoramic views across Russell Square and central London. Positioned high above the square’s treetops, the venue is expected to become a new West End vantage point for guests and locals alike.

Located in the heart of Bloomsbury, The Imperial sits within walking distance of key cultural landmarks, the West End and major transport links. The area’s mix of historic squares, independent cafés and bookshops gives the hotel a neighbourhood feel while remaining firmly connected to the capital’s commercial and entertainment districts.

The reopening marks a significant milestone for the property and signals a broader repositioning of Bloomsbury as a destination for design-conscious, experience-driven hospitality in central London.
