The Standard is converting Austin's South Congress Hotel into its first Texas property and first new US opening in over a decade, with a spring 2027 launch date.

The Standard is heading to Texas. The lifestyle hotel brand, part of the Hyatt portfolio, has confirmed it will open The Standard, Austin in spring 2027, its first new property in the United States in more than a decade.

The hotel will be a conversion and renovation of the existing South Congress Hotel at 1603 South Congress Avenue, a well-known address in one of Austin’s most popular neighbourhoods. The property will close for works in summer 2026.

The project is a joint venture between Hyatt and Timberline Real Estate Partners, with an Austin-based creative team leading the redesign. Architect Michael Hsu, whose practice has shaped a number of the city’s prominent hospitality venues, is working alongside interior designers Goodrich Design and The Standard’s in-house team under Verena Haller. Amar Lalvani, president and creative director of Hyatt’s Lifestyle Group, and James Moody, founder of creative agency Guerilla Suit, are also involved.

The finished hotel will include redesigned guest rooms, a rooftop pool overlooking South Congress, restaurants and bars, and what the brand describes as social wellness experiences. Hyatt’s Austin-based Bunkhouse brand team, which has long-standing ties to the neighbourhood, will support operations.

The opening places Austin within The Standard’s expanding international network, which already includes properties in London, Bangkok, Ibiza and Brussels. Further openings in Lisbon and Mexico City are expected later this year.

For business travellers, the South Congress location offers a distinctive alternative to Austin’s downtown conference hotel cluster, with the added draw of one of the city’s liveliest dining and retail strips on the doorstep.
