The transformation of Oxford’s historic Boswells department store into The Store hotel marks a significant chapter in the building’s rich history.

With 101 rooms featuring elegant design elements such as velvet headboards and art deco touches, The Store offers guests a blend of modern comfort and timeless charm.

On the ground floor, The Bar at The Store provides a welcoming coworking and dining space, while the signature restaurant, Treadwell, pays homage to the building’s past with its name inspired by Treadwell Passage, a bustling hub of activity in historic Oxford. The menu, described as ‘Untraditionally British,’ offers a tantalizing array of dishes, including Ruby Murray chicken pie and Rosemary & Thyme Brined Pork Tomahawk.

The fifth floor rooftop bar and terrace, complete with a year-round Smokehouse serving smoked meats and cheeses, offers guests stunning views of the city. Meanwhile, the hotel’s wellness area in the basement provides a sanctuary for relaxation, featuring a sauna, steam room, private treatment rooms, and holistic studio space.

The legacy of Boswells department store, which first opened its doors in 1738, lives on through The Store hotel, preserving the spirit of discovery and community that defined the beloved institution for 282 years. Simon Drake, general manager of The Store, captures this sentiment, expressing excitement about sharing the new space with both visitors and locals alike.
