The Twenty Two, renowned for its hotel, restaurant, and private members’ club, has made its debut in Manhattan’s Union Square.
Navid Mirtorabi, founder and principal, describes the new location as a place where “service, food, and culture intermingle to create an atmosphere that’s both exceptional and inviting”. He emphasises that the club aims to provide a familiar haven for New Yorkers and international members alike.
Located just south of the Flatiron district, The Twenty Two’s New York club occupies the historic Margaret Louisa Home for Protestant Women, a YMCA founded in 1891 by socialite Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt Shepard. The building has been meticulously restored by designers Alexy Kos and Che Huang of Child Studio, London, preserving its rich heritage.
Michael Chetrit, partner and principal of The Twenty Two New York, envisions the property as a space where social boundaries blur, offering an environment for guests to relax and enjoy themselves in an elegant setting.
The original Twenty Two opened in London in April 2022, housed in a 42,500 square foot Edwardian mansion in Mayfair. The New York location, nearly double in size at 80,000 square feet, features 17 suites and a rooftop penthouse with views of iconic skyscrapers like the Empire State Building. The second floor is dedicated to the private members’ club, while the ground floor will host an all-day dining restaurant open to the public. Additional amenities, including a gym and outdoor spaces, will be unveiled soon.
The culinary experience at The Twenty Two is set to impress, with Cafe Zaffri led by an all-female team from New York’s Michelin-endorsed Raf’s and the Michelin-starred The Musket Room. Chef Mary Ate and Executive Pastry Chef Camari Mick, both highly acclaimed, bring their expertise to the new venture.
