Virgin has made the tough decision to suspend the London Heathrow-Shanghai service after much deliberation. The last flight is scheduled to depart on 25th October 2024, and return the following day.
After 25 years of proudly serving this Asian hub city, Virgin have confirmed that operations have become increasingly costly with the closure of Russian airspace for UK carriers. This has resulted in longer flight times, meaning additional aircraft time and fuel is required, all of which have contributed to increased costs for the business.
They have commended their staff, customers, and partners, who have been exceptional since their initial arrival in Shanghai in 1999, offering vital connectivity between the UK and Shanghai.
Starting tomorrow, travellers with bookings for 26 October 2024 and beyond will qualify for a refund. Virgin will directly contact these customers to discuss the details.
