IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially opened voco Bangkok Surawong, bringing its fastest-growing premium brand to Thailand for the first time and adding a distinctive new address to the capital’s hotel scene.
True to voco’s positioning, the hotel blends individuality with approachability. Each voco property is designed to feel welcoming rather than formal, offering guests a relaxed, characterful stay that reflects its location. At voco Bangkok Surawong, that philosophy is expressed through subtle Thai influences, playful design touches and a sense of warmth that runs from arrival to check-out.
The hotel occupies the former Tawana Hotel, reimagined by award-winning Thai architecture studio A49. The redesign preserves the building’s Brutalist modernist bones while opening it up with natural light, flowing spaces and a more contemporary feel. Interiors by P49 Deesign layer mid-century charm with modern comfort, balancing retro details, Thai craftsmanship and voco’s signature upbeat aesthetic to mirror the energy of the Surawong neighbourhood.
From the moment guests arrive, the experience is intentionally personal. Check-in is swift and informal, and visitors are welcomed with a locally inspired voco treat — a mango sticky rice cookie, freshly prepared daily by the hotel’s pastry team as a modern nod to one of Thailand’s most loved desserts.
The hotel features 244 guestrooms and suites, all designed with comfort and sustainability in mind. In line with voco’s “step by step” sustainability ethos, pillows and duvets are filled with recycled materials, while bathrooms are stocked with premium organic bulk amenities from Antipodes. The aim is simple: thoughtful choices that reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality.
Dining is a central part of the experience, with three distinct venues offering everything from relaxed socialising to bold flavours. Tasca Sabio delivers Spanish-inspired small plates and sangria rituals designed for sharing, while Deckles Smokehouse brings slow-smoked techniques and spice-forward dishes to an all-day dining setting, paired with craft cocktails. Together, they reflect voco’s emphasis on sociable, unfussy dining.
Beyond food and drink, guests can unwind at the landscaped fourth-floor lap pool, maintain routines in the 24-hour fitness centre, or relax in the onsen spa. For events and meetings, voco Bangkok Surawong offers a stylish ballroom for up to 200 guests alongside four flexible meeting rooms equipped with modern AV technology, making it well suited to mid-scale conferences, corporate gatherings and social events.
Set on Surawong Road, the hotel is ideally placed between Bangkok’s historic character and its modern commercial pulse. It sits close to Silom’s nightlife, Sathorn’s business district and Siam’s retail and entertainment hubs, in a neighbourhood long known for its openness and cultural mix — a natural fit for voco’s refreshingly different take on hospitality.
Launched in 2018, voco has quickly become one of IHG’s most dynamic brands, with more than 117 hotels now open worldwide and over 100 more in the pipeline. The opening of voco Bangkok Surawong marks a significant milestone in that growth, introducing Thai travellers and international visitors alike to a brand built on personality, comfort and a sense of place.
