Budget airline Wizz Air is to purchase a further 75 Airbus A321neo aircraft as it looks to expand its operations.

The Hungary-based carrier has exercised an option to buy the extra 75 aircraft, which had been part of a deal originally struck with Airbus in November 2021 when Wizz ordered 102 Airbus A321 aircraft.

Wizz Air said that the delivery dates for the new aircraft were subject to agreement with Airbus, and the exercise of the option will also have to be approved by the airline’s shareholders.
Jozsef Varadi, Wizz Air’s CEO, said the decision to order more A321neo aircraft would “create a strong platform for Wizz Air’s future growth in the coming decade as we further strengthen our position as one of the world’s most sustainable airlines”.

“We remain on track to become a 500 aircraft airline group by the end of the decade while delivering our commitment to reduce our already industry-leading CO2 emissions by 25 per cent by 2030,” added Varadi.
